Honolulu County Inmate Search

Honolulu County inmate records do not come from a county sheriff. Oʻahu jail custody is run by the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center, the largest jail in Hawaii. People who want to search for Honolulu County inmates can check SAVIN/VINELink for custody status, call OCCC directly, and use the state's eCourt Kōkua portal for the underlying criminal case. Each system holds a piece of the picture, and a complete inmate search may need all three. The sections below explain how to use a Honolulu County inmate search safely, what each source shows, and how visitation, mail, and money deposits work at OCCC.

Honolulu County Jail at OCCC

The Oʻahu Community Correctional Center is the principal Honolulu County jail. It sits at 2199 Kamehameha Highway, Honolulu, HI 96819. DCR's official OCCC facility page lists 950 beds and describes the facility as the largest jail in Hawaii, sitting on 16 acres in urban Honolulu. OCCC holds pretrial detainees and provides reintegration programming for male sentenced felons nearing release. OCCC staff also manages the Laumaka Work Furlough Center one block away.

Honolulu does not have a county sheriff who runs the jail in the mainland sense. State law enforcement and corrections functions split during a 2024 redesignation: DCR now runs corrections and the new Department of Law Enforcement runs state law-enforcement work. The Honolulu Police Department handles arrests and short cellblock custody before transfer to OCCC or court.

How to Use the Honolulu County Inmate Roster

There is no public OCCC roster with mugshots, charges, bond amounts, and pod assignments. DCR uses SAVIN/VINELink for custody status. The workflow below covers the steps a friend, family member, attorney, or bail bondsman uses to check on a Honolulu County inmate.

  1. Open VINELink.com and select Hawaii as the state.
  2. Search by offender ID if known, or by first and last name.
  3. Register for free email, text, phone, or app notifications when custody status changes.
  4. If the person is not in SAVIN yet, call OCCC at (808) 832-1777 to confirm whether they are in custody at OCCC or in HPD cellblock.
  5. Check eCourt Kōkua under the person's name for the criminal Case ID, bail amount, and next court date.
  6. For federal Honolulu County inmates, use the Federal BOP inmate locator.

SAVIN is free, anonymous, and confidential. DCR cautions users not to rely solely on SAVIN for protection and disclaims accuracy and completeness. SAVIN does not cover federal inmates or suspects held at a police cellblock before court-system processing.

The DCR Hawaii SAVIN information page below outlines registration methods, notifications, and limits.

HPD Arrest Logs and Cellblock Custody

Before a person is transferred to OCCC or appears in court, they may be in HPD cellblock custody. HPD's adult arrest logs are posted daily and rotate off the public site after fourteen days. The arrest log includes date and time of arrest, name, age, sex, race, arresting officer, nature of offense, and report number. Juvenile arrest information is never released through the adult log.

HPD does not run name-based searches of the logs for the public. People who need older logs must submit a written request to the HPD Records and Identification Division, 801 South Beretania Street, Honolulu, HI 96813. Records questions go to (808) 723-3258, Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Receiving Division adult and juvenile arrest information lines run through (808) 723-3000.

Phone, Mail, Tablets, and Money at OCCC

Inmate phone calls at OCCC have been provided by Global Tel Link / ViaPath since February 1, 2018. Tablets for video visits and program services arrived in September 2021. Electronic deposits into inmate trust accounts began October 18, 2022, through GTL/ViaPath Connect Network. Mail and publication rules follow DCR policies COR 15.02 and COR 15.05.

For general mail, address envelopes to OCCC, 2199 Kamehameha Highway, Honolulu, HI 96819, with the inmate's full name and DCR number. Attorney visitation differs from family and friend visitation; lawyers should verify scheduling and security rules with the facility before traveling.

Federal Honolulu County Inmate Lookups

Federal inmates are not held at OCCC under DCR. They are tracked through the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. The BOP search uses BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, INS Number, or a name with optional race, sex, and age. The U.S. Marshals Service District of Hawaii also handles federal pretrial detainees and may use contract facilities for housing.
