What Honolulu County Court Dockets Show

A docket is the case timeline. Each entry holds the date, a short title, and sometimes a PDF link. eCourt Kōkua displays Honolulu County court dockets on the Dockets tab inside the case detail screen. The Events tab holds scheduled hearings and concluded events. The Summary tab carries the case name, parties, and bail or bond data. The Offenses tab appears only for criminal cases. Together the four tabs give the public the same case picture court staff use.

Each docket entry uses short labels. Common labels include "Complaint Filed," "Motion to Continue Filed," "Order Granting Motion," "Notice of Hearing," "Bench Warrant Issued," "Bench Warrant Recalled," "Plea Entered," "Disposition," "Judgment Entered," and "Notice of Appeal." Sealed and in-camera dockets show as masked entries with the sealed label and cannot be purchased through the public system.

Honolulu County court dockets do not always carry a PDF link. The Judiciary user manual explains that if the docket entry does not show a PDF icon, the document is not for sale online. The clerk may still hold the document on paper. A counter visit or written request can pull it.

How to Search Honolulu County Court Dockets

Honolulu County court dockets sit inside the same eCourt Kōkua portal that holds case files. There is no separate docket-only portal, so the dockets search follows the standard case search workflow.

  1. Open eCourt Kōkua through the Hawaii Judiciary access page and accept the disclaimer.
  2. Pick Party Search by last and first name, or Case Search if you know the Case ID.
  3. Click the case from the result list to open the case detail screen.
  4. Click the Dockets tab to read the chronological filings, minute entries, and document links.
  5. For upcoming hearings tied to that case, switch to the Events tab.

The Upcoming Court Hearings Search tile holds a separate look-up by Case ID or by Court/Location. The Court/Location version uses Island, Location, Courtroom or Division, Calendar Date From, Calendar Date To, and an optional Calendar Time. Results show case IDs, hearing times, and a "Click here" link that opens the courtroom calendar detail.

Dockets vs Full Honolulu County Court Records

A docket is a list. A full court record is the underlying file. The docket shows that a complaint was filed on a date; the actual complaint sits as a separate document. Honolulu County court dockets tell the public the case story without giving every page of every motion or exhibit. People who want copies of documents must move from the docket entry to the PDF icon and check out through the View/Purchase Documents flow.

The Honolulu County court records page explains the wider records search and fee schedule. The current docket page focuses on the docket and the hearing calendar themselves, which are useful for spotting a next court date or confirming a filing was logged.

Which Honolulu County Courts Publish Dockets

The First Circuit covers Honolulu County and publishes dockets for every public case type. The list below shows which trial-level courts feed into eCourt Kōkua.

  • First Circuit Court — felony criminal, civil over $40,000, probate, guardianship.
  • Honolulu District Court — misdemeanors, civil up to $40,000, small claims, landlord-tenant, traffic.
  • First Circuit Family Court — divorce, custody, support, juvenile, adoption, TROs (subject to confidentiality limits).
  • Land Court — statewide title registration and easement cases.
  • Tax Appeal Court — statewide state and county tax disputes.
  • Intermediate Court of Appeals and Hawaiʻi Supreme Court — appellate dockets statewide.

Each court level uses different case-type codes inside the case ID. A criminal Circuit docket carries "PC" while a civil Circuit docket carries "CC" or "CV." A family divorce docket carries "FDV." A District Court regular claim shows "RC." These letters help when scanning a Honolulu County court dockets result list.

Limits on Honolulu County Court Dockets

Some Honolulu County court dockets are not shown in eCourt Kōkua. Juvenile, adoption, and sealed cases never appear in the public system. Confidential family filings can be partially shown with sealed labels on specific dockets while other parts of the case remain visible. Recently filed cases, tickets, or orders may not appear right away because data has to be entered by clerks before it can be searched.

Older docket entries can also be incomplete online. District civil documents before October 7, 2019, Circuit civil before October 28, 2019, Land Court and Tax Appeal before November 18, 2019, and Family civil before April 25, 2022 may not have online PDFs even when the docket entries appear. Counter access or written request fills those gaps.
